President Trump’s fight to defend his tough trade policies hit a major court setback Friday when the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit ruled against his sweeping tariffs. But Trump isn’t backing down — in fact, he’s doubling down.
Judges Claim Trump Overstepped
In a 7-4 decision, the federal appeals court said Trump did not have the authority under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) to impose broad tariffs on goods from nearly every country. The ruling read:
“Because we agree that IEEPA’s grant of presidential authority to ‘regulate’ imports does not authorize the tariffs imposed by the Executive Orders, we affirm.”
