Appeal Incoming After Trump Tariffs BLOCKED!

In a striking rebuke of President Donald Trump’s bold trade tactics, the U.S. Court of International Trade has ruled that he overstepped his legal authority when he imposed sweeping tariffs using emergency powers granted by a decades-old law. The decision deals a major blow to Trump’s America First trade agenda and puts the future of his signature tariffs on shaky legal ground.

The court, based in New York, determined that President Trump’s use of the International Emergency Economic Powers Act of 1977 (IEEPA) to justify a broad slate of tariffs was unlawful. The ruling immediately halts Trump’s 30% tariffs on Chinese imports, the 25% levies on some goods from Mexico and Canada, and the blanket 10% tariffs on a wide range of foreign products. However, the decision does not touch the separate 25% tariffs on automobiles, auto parts, steel, or aluminum—those were enacted under a different statute entirely.

A panel of three judges—Gary Katzmann (appointed by Obama), Timothy Reif (Trump), and Jane Restani (Reagan)—unanimously agreed that Trump’s aggressive tariff moves under the IEEPA lacked sufficient legal footing.

“A three-judge panel at the US Court of International Trade, a relatively low-profile court in Manhattan, ruled Wednesday to temporarily halt Trump’s global tariffs that he imposed citing emergency economic powers, including his ‘Liberation Day’ tariffs imposed on April 2,” CNN reported.
