Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is not mincing words when it comes to the growing criticism over his state’s new illegal immigration detention center in the Florida Everglades — a facility that some critics have dubbed “Alligator Alcatraz.” In a bold response during a press event in Gainesville, DeSantis took direct aim at leftist lawmakers and activist groups pushing what he says are baseless narratives.
Governor DeSantis addressed the so-called complaints about the food and conditions at the migrant processing center, dismantling the claims one by one.
“So, they’re making these claims and they’re saying oh they [illegals] are not fed well. Well, first of all, they’re fed the same that the staff is fed,” DeSantis said. “You know you go to, it’s not a prison, it’s a deportation processing center. So, it is different.”
He continued, adding a dose of sarcasm:
“But like in Florida prisons, do you think the prisoners get the same meals as the guards? No, of course not. It’s different. This is — everyone’s the same there, and they were mad that the ham sandwiches weren’t toasted. Excuse me? I mean, give me a break.”
