In yet another bizarre twist involving the Secret Service, former President Donald Trump confirmed Tuesday that an agent attempted to sneak his wife aboard a transport flight that was part of the Air Force One mission to Scotland last week.
“Wouldn’t you think it might be a little dangerous?” Trump told reporters while en route back to Washington after a five-day trip across the Atlantic.
The former president didn’t mince words about the strange occurrence, calling it “a weird deal.” He added that he was made aware of the situation promptly and trusts Secret Service Director Sean M. Curran will “take care of it.”
According to The Herald of Glasgow, the agent—reportedly based in Dallas—arranged for his wife to be flown to Maryland, where she received an official briefing and was then transported to Joint Base Andrews. That’s where she was ultimately discovered and ordered off the plane before the mission could proceed.
A Secret Service spokesperson, Anthony Guglielmi, released the following statement: “The U.S. Secret Service is conducting a personnel investigation after an employee attempted to invite his spouse – a member of the United States Air Force – aboard a mission support flight. Prior to the overseas departure, the employee was advised by supervisors that such action was prohibited, and the spouse was subsequently prevented from taking the flight. No Secret Service protectees were aboard and there was no impact to our overseas protective operation.”
