A leading figure of the radical progressive “Squad” may soon be jobless—thanks to bold new redistricting efforts shaking up Texas politics. Congressman Greg Casar (D-TX), one of the most far-left voices in Congress, is now staring down a political cliff as the Republican-controlled state legislature rolls out a sweeping congressional map overhaul.
This week, Texas Republicans unveiled a new redistricting proposal that effectively kicks Casar out of his current district, the state’s 35th. According to the map, his deep-blue stronghold—which stretches from parts of Austin to San Antonio—will be dramatically reshaped, giving Republicans a decisive edge. Political analysts say the new lines could hand the GOP at least five more solid red seats, all won by President Trump in 2024 by double digits.
The implications are massive—not just for Texas but for control of the U.S. House.
Casar, now 36, is a darling of the far-left and the current chairman of the Congressional Progressive Caucus. He won his seat in 2022 with backing from left-wing heavyweights like Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) and Squad leader Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY). That year, he crushed his Republican opponent with 73% of the vote. But that massive win may have been his first and last.
