As Arizona voters continue to demand answers over the chaotic 2022 election, new revelations indicate that Maricopa County officials were forewarned about potential tabulator malfunctions but did nothing to prevent them.
On November 8, 2022, polling places opened at 7 a.m., and nearly 60% of voting machines in Maricopa County—home to the majority of Arizona’s voters—began rejecting ballots. This resulted in massive delays, with lines stretching for hours and disproportionately impacting in-person Republican voters.

Election workers instructed voters to place their ballots in a separate box for later counting, a process that left many questioning the integrity of their votes. The confusion and disarray led to roughly 17,000 ballots being diverted for later tabulation—though the actual number could be far higher given the widespread nature of the problem. By the time Maricopa County completed its prolonged ballot-counting process, Kari Lake, the Trump-endorsed gubernatorial candidate, had lost by a mere 17,000 votes, and Trump-backed Attorney General candidate Abe Hamadeh fell short by just 280 votes.
