Meanwhile, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has added fuel to the fire with sharp criticisms of the Biden-Harris administration. In a separate development last week, DeSantis accused federal authorities of obstructing a state investigation into what he described as an assassination plot against former President Donald Trump. During an interview with Fox News host Laura Ingraham, DeSantis stated that Florida officials were “rebuffed” when attempting to access critical information regarding the alleged attacker, Ryan Routh.
Routh, a 58-year-old man, allegedly planned to assassinate Trump while he played golf at his Palm Beach course last Sunday. According to DeSantis, “The answer is, no, they’re not being cooperative. Yes, I am concerned. I mean, for example, we were rebuffed. Our investigators were rebuffed just going to the fence line outside of Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach.”
This alarming situation unfolded when Florida investigators sought to gather evidence from the site of the alleged plot, but were blocked by federal authorities. DeSantis expressed frustration over the lack of cooperation, saying, “I think they’ve taken the position they don’t want the state of Florida to be involved in this.”
The Florida governor did not mince words as he outlined his concerns about federal overreach. “We have a duty to investigate this,” DeSantis emphasized, pointing to multiple potential violations of Florida law. “There were multiple violations of Florida law across multiple jurisdictions. We think at least three judicial circuits. This guy, Ryan Routh, committed potential violations of Florida law.”
DeSantis vowed that the state would continue its investigation, despite federal roadblocks. “I think that they’ve just taken that position, and I think that that’s unfortunate because even though I’ve been very clear, the state of Florida is going to do an investigation,” he said. “Let us do this.”
The ongoing feud between DeSantis and the Biden administration over this issue highlights deeper tensions between state and federal authorities. The governor expressed hope that the federal government would eventually cooperate but added, “I can tell you right now, Laura, we have not gotten a lot of receptive, receptive response.”

As DeSantis discussed the suspect, Ryan Routh, he also raised questions about how Routh ended up in Florida in the first place. “How did that happen?” DeSantis asked during the interview. “How did he end up in Florida to begin with? What does this pathway this guy has taken to end up in those bushes trying to assassinate the former President of the United States and current Republican nominee?”
The Florida governor went further, pointing out that there are still lingering questions about a previous assassination attempt against Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania, back in July. DeSantis also tied the current investigation to other unresolved national security events, such as the 2017 Las Vegas shooting, in which 60 people lost their lives.
“So, part of the investigation that our folks are doing is they are going to provide evidence they find of motive, evidence of his associations, and evidence of his beliefs. I think that’s very important that the public get the real story on that,” DeSantis concluded.
As the investigation continues, both incidents—the White House car fire and the Florida assassination plot—are raising alarm and casting a shadow over an already tense political landscape. With DeSantis leading the charge in his investigation, the nation waits to see whether federal authorities will step in or continue their stance of non-cooperation. All eyes are now on both Washington, D.C., and Florida as more details emerge.
