Tlaib’s Antifa Defense Sparks Outrage

Michigan Democrat Rashida Tlaib is drawing fierce backlash after publicly criticizing the prison sentences handed down to members of a violent antifa-linked group convicted for a coordinated attack on a Texas immigration detention facility that left a police officer seriously wounded.

The controversy erupted after a federal judge imposed lengthy prison terms on several members of the extremist cell, including Benjamin Song, a former Marine Corps reservist found guilty of attempted murder after shooting Alvarado Police Lt. Thomas Gross during the July 4, 2025 assault.

Gross survived the attack, but suffered serious injuries when a bullet struck his neck and shoulder during a gun battle outside the detention center.
