Jonathan Turley penned:

SAG-AFTRA has brought up this problem with CBS, according to a source within the union, and it is still very worried about how this would affect journalistic standards and source confidentiality. The union considers this to be “very unusual” and extends well beyond this particular instance. “It is a matter of principle,” an official from the union continued. “It is a matter of serious concern. We are considering all of our options.”

To be quite honest, I worked as a legal analyst for CBS for two different contracts. I loved working for the network. Herridge is someone I have known for years, both as a journalist and as a lawyer.

Among the top news agencies in the world, CBS has a famous past that includes iconic journalists like Walter Cronkite, Roger Mudd, and Murrow. That’s why so many of us were happy to see Herridge hired. The network ran the risk of joining the liberal and Democratic narrative’s echo chamber and becoming a member of the journalistic herd. It had been stuck in third place for a very long time, and by alienating half of the nation, it was heading in the wrong way.

These files could include sources that Herridge protected with anonymity. According to the firm, CBS ultimately owns the right of secrecy and the material. That cannot be the case, as a threshold matter, with reference to files created during Herridge’s extensive employment with Fox News. However, it also seems that CBS is keeping such files.

ALERT! Major Water Restrictions In Effect!

Herridge, a former Fox News employee, is currently at the center of a major First Amendment dispute. This is in response to a federal judge’s order that she disclose the identity of the confidential informants that she used to support her 2017 reports on the FBI’s investigation of Chinese American scientist Yanping Chen.

Chen filed a lawsuit against the FBI in 2018 after Herridge’s revelations during her time at Fox News caused her to claim that illegal information breaches had violated her privacy. Chen tried to use a legal subpoena in 2022 to compel Herridge and Fox News to reveal the leak source, but both of them objected, citing their First Amendment rights.

Herridge may be charged with contempt of court for refusing to reveal the source of her investigative report from 2017 that she filed for Fox News. Personal responsibility for daily fines of up to $5,000 may result from this.
