Chiefs Fan’s Kin Hits Back: Media Faces Payback for Racism Claim!

The well-known lefty sports website Deadspin finds itself in a predicament that is reminiscent of the demise of its parent firm. Get ready for a fierce court battle.

Deadspin is embroiled in controversy as it engages in an odd conflict with a teenage Kansas City Chiefs supporter.

When this photo went viral, the little child—later identified as Holden Armenta—was denounced and attacked as some kind of horrible racist:

Deadspin, a publication that frequently cries about intersectionality in sports, jumped at the chance to publicly discredit the young Armenta. They published a critical piece titled, “The NFL needs to speak out against the Kansas City Chiefs fan in Black face, Native headdress (UPDATE).”

(And, yeah, this is such a small update; I’ll get into that shortly.)

When it was found that the protests against racism and “blackface” were ineffective, debate broke out. It turns out that the Chiefs’ colors were simply conventional football “warpaint” on young Armenta.

To call Armenta a racist is to imply that everybody who supports the Pittsburgh Steelers or Las Vegas Raiders by wearing “warpaint” is likewise racist.

Shannon Armenta, the mother of a Chiefs fan, fanned the flames by revealing that her kid is Native American.

A few reporters felt embarrassed over their overly dramatic response, and they apologized.

Deadspin? Oh no, with that trite, previously stated “Update,” which just aimed to draw attention to how the tribe to which Armenta might trace some ancestry condemned the wearing of traditional clothing on festive occasions, those buffoons had strengthened their position.

ALERT! Major Water Restrictions In Effect!

Based on their inconsiderate answer, Deadspin is being sued by Shannon Armenta, according court records that NewsNation was able to get.

Armenta’s parents, Shannon and Raul “Bubba” Armenta, have gone so far as to retain legal counsel in their demands that Deadspin withdraw their piece. In addition, the parents have threatened legal action should the outlet refuse to comply with their request.

“These Articles, posts on X, and photos about Holden and his parents must be retracted immediately,” the letter said. “It is not enough to quietly remove a tweet from X or disable the article from Deadspin’s website.

“You must publish your retractions and issue an apology to my clients with the same prominence and fanfare with which you defamed them.”

This contentious website took advantage of a trending topic to gain attention and popularity online, giving the impression that it is a gossip magazine rather than a reliable source. On the other hand, they could have run afoul of the law for their acts.

A blast from the past is about to begin! This will bring back memories of how Gawker ended its existence.

After releasing a sex tape involving legendary wrestler Terry “Hulk Hogan” Bollea, Gawker’s website took a hit.

After the publishing, Bollea sued the website, which essentially made a number of important staff disappear.

In 2016, Gawker filed for bankruptcy after a judge found the website and its staff liable for damages. The devastation that followed resulted in the sale of many websites, including Deadspin.

There’s a reason that “those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it” is a saying that has persisted.

Something Deadspin has to learn very well, particularly if they don’t want to take down their piece.
