Kris Mayes, the Democratic attorney general of Arizona, has made an important announcement. A grand jury has decided to indict two Republican election officials who supported manual ballot counting on election day and during early voting, which is a noteworthy development.
Arizona is preparing to indict Republican supervisors Peggy Judd and Terry Crosby, who worked for Cochise County in the past, on charges of conspiracy and meddling in elections. They expressed skepticism towards the machines following reported issues in Maricopa County and called for a manual tallying of the county’s votes. In order to allay their worries, they decided to delay the election’s certification.

“The repeated attempts to undermine our democracy are unacceptable,” Mayes’ office wrote in a press release. “I took an oath to uphold the rule of law, and my office will continue to enforce Arizona’s elections laws and support our election officials as they carry out the duties and responsibilities of their offices.”
“The indictment filed November 27, 2023, in Maricopa County Superior Court alleges that on or between October 11, 2022, and December 1, 2022, Judd and Crosby conspired to delay the canvass of votes cast in Cochise County in the November 2022 General Election,” the release continues. “The Indictment further alleges that Judd and Crosby knowingly interfered with the Arizona Secretary of State’s ability to complete the statewide canvass for the 2022 General Election, by preventing the canvass of votes from Cochise County from occurring during the time period required by Arizona law.”
In 2022, Mayes narrowly defeated Republican opponent Abe Hamadeh in her own election, winning by a mere 280 votes. Now running for a Grand Canyon State congressional seat, Hamadeh fiercely condemns his former rival’s bold manipulation of her status, calling it a troubling abuse of power.
“Third world elections lead to third world dictators,” Hamadeh wrote in an X post. “Mayes is a fraud, she didn’t receive the most votes – and she knows it.”
“I don’t feel like I broke a law,” Judd told the Associated Press after receiving a subpoena earlier this year. “But, obviously the courts had different feelings,” she added.
For plotting to purposefully postpone Cochise County’s vote canvassing during the November 8, 2022, general election, Crosby and Judd have been charged.
Democrats in Arizona have threatened to put election officials in jail if they don’t quickly certify the results of the vote. Before she was elected governor, Katie Hobbs threatened to detain and imprison Mohave County Board of Supervisors members for failing to certify the county’s election by the deadline set by the state.

Mohave County officials showed their dedication to accountability and openness by requesting more time to conduct a thorough investigation into election irregularities and to hold public hearings.
