Following a recent clash between US and Russian forces in Syria, tensions are rising. An attempt at a “dogfight” between several hostile jets and American aircraft was confirmed by a spokesman for the US Central Command.
According to an unnamed US official who spoke to CNN, the Russian pilots’ actions may have been an attempt to spark a “provocative international incident,” suggesting they had reasons apart from downing American aircraft.
Russian pilots often put American aviators in danger by acting in an improper and provocative manner in the air, Col. Joe Buccino said.
According to Lt. Gen. Alexus Grynkewich, the US is dedicated to settling the conflict peacefully in order to reduce tensions.
In contrast to previous observations, the Russians appear to be adopting a more assertive position and acting as though they were engaged in aerial warfare. This action appears to be against accepted conventions, which stipulate that both parties should maintain a safe distance and merely watch each other’s movements.
“The guidance that I’ve given our folks is we’re not going to act like they are [trying to dogfight]. We’re going to act in a professional manner, and we’re going to try to de-escalate the situation.”
Senior Russian officials issued a stern warning to President Biden about the fast increasing risk of nuclear war amid intensifying tensions.
President Joe Biden and the United States have received a stern warning from Russia that nuclear war is imminent as tensions between the two countries escalate over unresolved problems with Ukraine. All possibilities seem to still be on the table in this developing conflict as escalating hostilities don’t seem to be slowing down.
In retaliation for Moscow’s decision to stop participating in the New START treaty, the United States has decided to halt sharing critical intelligence with Russia about its nuclear capabilities.
The START Treaty may be doomed if the US continues on its current course of hostility with Russia, Russian Foreign Minister Vladimir Yermakov bemoaned as tensions between the two countries grew.
He emphasized the immediate danger of nuclear escalation brought on by direct military conflict between major world powers.
“And these risks, to the deepest regret, are steadily growing.”
