President Donald Trump’s newly acquired Boeing 747 was the subject of another unexpected incident Wednesday, briefly delaying his departure from Joint Base Andrews after an emergency evacuation slide deployed from the aircraft.
The incident occurred as Trump was preparing to travel to Dallas for the Republican Party’s midterm convention, putting the spotlight once again on the unusual aircraft that has become the subject of intense political and security debate.
Marine One arrived near the presidential aircraft shortly before the scheduled departure. Rather than immediately transferring to the Boeing 747, however, Trump remained aboard the helicopter for roughly 20 minutes while Air Force personnel inspected the aircraft.
