A new trade confrontation between the United States and Canada is rapidly escalating, with Ontario Premier Doug Ford threatening to use his province’s electricity exports and critical mineral resources as leverage against President Donald Trump.
Ford issued the warning Monday after the United States imposed a 50% tariff on approximately $20 billion worth of Canadian goods following the reported breakdown of trade negotiations.
The Ontario premier made clear that he is prepared to take aggressive action if the dispute continues.
