FDA Commissioner Marty Makary is stepping down after a stormy and highly scrutinized tenure inside President Donald Trump’s administration, adding yet another major shakeup to the federal government’s increasingly chaotic health leadership structure.
The resignation marks a dramatic turn for one of the most high-profile figures in Trump’s second-term health agenda. Makary, a well-known surgeon from Johns Hopkins University, became a favorite among conservatives during the COVID era after openly challenging lockdowns, vaccine mandates, and what many on the Right viewed as heavy-handed government control pushed by federal health bureaucrats.
