SCOTUS Greenlights Alabama Map Shakeup!

The U.S. Supreme Court has handed Republicans a significant legal victory that could reshape the political battlefield ahead of the upcoming midterm elections, setting the stage for a new round of redistricting fights across multiple states.

In a closely watched decision involving Alabama, the Supreme Court of the United States cleared the way for the state to move forward with congressional map revisions that could improve Republican chances in several key districts.

The ruling came in a 6–3 decision, with the Court vacating a lower court order that had previously required Alabama’s congressional map to include two majority-Black districts. That lower court directive is now being reconsidered in light of recent Supreme Court guidance limiting how race may be used in drawing congressional boundaries.

Supporters of the ruling say it restores authority to elected state lawmakers, rather than federal judges, in deciding how district lines are drawn.
