And then came the line that set the left into a frenzy:
“We’re definitely honored to represent him and the hundreds of millions across the country and to bring a gold medal back.”
Honored. To represent. Him. Simple words, yet utterly devastating to the liberal media narrative.
While Tkachuk was celebrating the victory, HuffPost ran an article titled, “There’s A Name For The Discomfort You’re Feeling Watching The Olympics Right Now.” Their main argument? Americans who feel proud when seeing flag-waving and “USA” chants are experiencing… psychological unease. They actually tried to pathologize patriotism during a gold medal win against Canada.
Dave Portnoy of Barstool Sports nailed it. He called out the critics for exactly what they are:
“If the president calls after you win the gold medal – I don’t care if you don’t want to talk to him, fine. But to get mad when somebody talks to the President of the United States, and he’s just congratulating them, chumming around… you need to take a valium.”
Portnoy isn’t wrong. This isn’t complicated. Cheering for your country doesn’t require a therapy session.
The left has spent years politicizing professional sports. They plastered Black Lives Matter logos on courts, cheered athletes taking a knee during the National Anthem, and treated Colin Kaepernick as a cultural hero. But now, when a true champion like Tkachuk openly states pride in representing the president and the country, they’re suddenly compelled to spin a narrative about psychological discomfort.
Even Jack Hughes, who scored the overtime winner despite losing two teeth in the game after a Canadian stick to the face, came out smiling, laughing, and focused solely on hockey. No politics. No agenda. Just passion for the game and love for his country. That’s exactly what this team embodies—and Tkachuk said it loud and clear for everyone to hear.
Here’s the kicker: the left doesn’t actually want athletes to stay apolitical. They only want athletes to take their political stance. The moment someone like Tkachuk steps outside that pre-approved lane, it threatens their carefully crafted media narrative. They didn’t run mental health columns when athletes kneeled. They published celebratory features. But cheering for America? Suddenly, Americans are “distressed.”
At the end of the day, Team USA returned from Italy with gold, pride, and integrity intact. And one of its stars reminded the nation of a simple truth:
“There’s no greater honor than representing the United States of America.”
The left has no answer for that. They never did.
