SCOTUS Could HAND GOP the House!

The U.S. Supreme Court is signaling a major shift in how federal courts handle Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act, a move that could give state lawmakers more freedom to draw district maps without facing lawsuits that mix race and politics. Experts say this could reshape the political map in states across the country.

The stakes are high. Two prominent voting rights organizations have warned that limiting or striking down Section 2 could let Republican-led legislatures redraw as many as 19 congressional districts in their favor, potentially reshaping control in the U.S. House of Representatives.

On “Fox & Friends,” attorney Mehek Cooke suggested the Court’s approach could help President Donald Trump navigate politically charged cases. She told host Kevin Corke, “I think the Supreme Court is giving President Trump a road map for navigating certain cases that could have a major impact on his agenda.”

The case under scrutiny, Louisiana v. Callais, has drawn attention for the Court’s conservative majority showing openness to a Trump Justice Department strategy. This approach could make it harder for plaintiffs to win racial vote dilution claims in areas where voting patterns align with political parties—a trend common in Southern states.
