Cohen had been cast as a hero by the Left for turning against Trump, testifying in both the 2023 civil fraud case and the 2024 hush money prosecution.
James used Cohen’s statements to secure a civil fraud judgment, claiming Trump inflated asset values to obtain favorable loans. Bragg, meanwhile, leaned on Cohen to convict Trump on 34 counts of falsifying business records related to the hush money payments.
