With the clock striking midnight on New Year’s Day, New Yorkers officially ushered in Zohran Mamdani as the city’s 112th mayor—and almost immediately, the consequences of radical left-wing governance began to unfold.

At just 34 years old, Mamdani, a self-described democratic socialist, wasted no time turning campaign rhetoric into executive action. Within hours of taking office, he launched a sweeping offensive against landlords and private property rights, sending a clear message that the city is entering a new and far more aggressive era of government control.

New York City, it seems, got exactly what it voted for.

Mamdani was sworn in on a Quran administered by Senator Bernie Sanders, a moment rich in symbolism for his political base. But symbolism quickly gave way to policy.
