At the center of the controversy is DHS General Counsel James Percival, who released portions of an interview that did not appear in a 60 Minutes report examining the administration’s controversial practice of deporting migrants through third countries.
The previously unaired footage includes an exchange in which correspondent Gianna Toboni acknowledged that she was not specifically alleging that deportees had been tortured after returning to their home countries.
The disclosure has prompted questions about CBS’s editorial decisions, although the omitted exchange does not, by itself, establish that the network misrepresented the broader legal or humanitarian concerns surrounding the deportations.
