Mayor vs. ICE: Unexpected Turn!

>> Continued From the Previous Page <<

“The abuse has not been acceptable,” Biss declared.¹ “The racism has not been acceptable. The violence has not been acceptable.”

Bovino, unfazed, responded directly: “Yeah, that’s why we’re here in your community.”²

When the mayor claimed he was “unaware” of any violence committed by illegal immigrants, Bovino didn’t hesitate.

“Well, that’s probably the problem,” he said.³ “Maybe you should get aware.”

The exchange captured a familiar pattern in sanctuary cities: Democrat leaders often prefer political theater over confronting the crime and chaos illegal immigration brings to their communities.

Biss isn’t just Evanston’s mayor; he’s running to replace retiring Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky in Illinois’s 9th Congressional District. Recent polling shows Biss tied with progressive influencer Kat Abughazaleh at 18%, with 31% of voters still undecided ahead of the March 2026 primary.⁴

Despite the stakes, Biss seemed more focused on optics than public safety. Instead of cooperating with federal law enforcement, he rallied residents to interfere. On X, he instructed locals to blow whistles to alert illegal immigrants to Border Patrol activity.

“We need rapid responders out immediately with whistles ready to warn our neighbors,” Biss wrote.⁵ “We must keep each other safe.”

He later denounced Bovino and his agents as “masked thugs” allegedly “terrorizing innocent people.”⁶

Bovino, however, remained firm. He publicly disputed the mayor’s claims and reaffirmed that federal agents would continue their work despite local opposition.

“Today, @CBP and allied agencies were in Evanston, Illinois, to make his city a safer place through Title 8 immigration enforcement,” Bovino posted.⁷ “We’re not going to let the Mayor fall back into divisive talking points. Today was an excellent day in Evanston.”

The confrontation played out at multiple sites across the Chicago suburbs. At a Home Depot parking lot, roughly 100 protesters surrounded federal vehicles, chanting and blowing whistles as agents loaded detainees. Biss argued agents lacked warrants, to which Bovino corrected him immediately: “I am. They’re not residents. They’re illegal aliens, that’s not a resident.”⁹

He also cautioned the mayor about using euphemisms: “Don’t use that type of language, Mr. Mayor,” Bovino said.¹⁰

Later, Biss followed the convoy to another enforcement location, demonstrating how agenda-driven the mayor was. Bovino noted the move on X: “Sara, he got it again about 45 minutes later when he followed us to another enforcement event. This guy is about as agenda driven as they get.”¹¹

Despite Biss’s public opposition, local police assisted with crowd control, ensuring federal operations ran smoothly. Since September, Operation Midway Blitz has arrested roughly 3,000 individuals in northern Illinois, targeting criminal illegal aliens in Chicago’s highest-crime neighborhoods.¹²

Democrats like Biss continue to deny the problem of illegal immigration, while federal agents consistently find criminals who should not be in the country.

“We aren’t leaving Chicago and operations are ongoing,” Department of Homeland Security spokeswoman Tricia McLaughlin confirmed.¹³ “Operation Midway Blitz is achieving what Chicago’s sanctuary politicians have refused to do for decades: decrease crime and remove the worst of the worst criminal illegal aliens who put the American people in danger.”

In Evanston, as in other sanctuary cities, federal agents are stepping in to enforce the law—while Democrat leaders put politics above the safety of their residents. The contrast couldn’t be clearer: Border Patrol protecting Americans, and politicians playing to the cameras.
