Bondi described Cole during the presser as an “anarchist.” Meanwhile, investigators tied him to the crime using a blend of digital footprints, including phone pings and credit card transaction records. The affidavit lays out a trail that any serious investigative team could have followed long ago.
Even after the facts became public, CNN still managed to step on a rake. Jake Tapper told his viewers, “Brian Cole Jr., a 30-year-old white man from the D.C. suburbs, is charged with transporting an explosive device in interstate commerce and with malicious destruction by means of explosion.” Tapper added, “CNN observed local and federal law enforcement outside his home in Woodbridge, Virginia, this morning.”
The claim spread instantly because the media desperately wanted the suspect to fit their favorite story line. For years, activists in newsrooms pushed the idea that a white Trump supporter must be behind the pipe bombs. They said it so often that it practically became doctrine in left wing circles. When the arrest finally came, the narrative collapsed so quickly that even CNN could not keep up with the facts.
Tapper’s false declaration was not a minor slip. It showed how deeply committed many in the media are to their preferred political story rather than the truth. Cole is not white. He is a black man. That fact alone shattered years of speculation, opinion segments, and conveniently timed fear mongering aimed at conservatives.
Tapper’s segment also reminded viewers why trust in legacy news outlets keeps sinking. The priorities are obvious. If a detail helps their political framing, they run with it. If it contradicts their scripts, they rush past it or pretend it does not matter.
In reality, the arrest raises a far bigger question. Why did Biden’s FBI ignore the evidence for years while devoting an entire federal apparatus to punishing political enemies. Christopher Wray was busy sending agents to raid homes of conservatives while an actual bomb plotter remained untouched. That is the real scandal. That is the story the media refuses to touch.
CNN’s face plant will be forgotten by the corporate press by tomorrow morning. The public will not forget it so easily. Conservative viewers have watched this pattern for years. A narrative is built. The facts emerge. The narrative collapses. The media shrugs and moves on.
This time, however, the mistake was too blatant to ignore. The country watched one of the most visible names in cable news confidently give out false information about a major criminal arrest. And he did it while pushing the same tired message that the left has been selling since 2021.
Tapper wanted a villain who matched his script. Instead, the truth got in the way.
