President Donald Trump is standing by his decision to confront Iran, even as Vice President JD Vance points to the war as the central reason Republicans suffered devastating setbacks in the 2026 midterm elections.
Speaking with reporters Wednesday while touring the newly constructed White House Ballroom, Trump was asked about Vance’s assessment of the Republican losses and his suggestion that the administration’s military campaign against Iran had cost the GOP critical support among voters.
The president’s response made clear that he understood the political consequences of the decision long before the election results came in.
“I knew… I know how he feels about it. I think it was fine. I thought it was good,” Trump said when asked about Vance’s remarks.
