Finland’s former Prime Minister Sanna Marin has decided the world needs a revised version of her political legacy. With the release of her new memoir, she seems determined to reshape how history views her four years in office. But instead of polishing her reputation, Marin managed to reignite the very scandal she wants voters to forget.

A Prime Minister Still Haunted By One Night
Marin climbed to global celebrity status in 2019 when she became Finland’s youngest-ever Prime Minister at thirty-four. Her time in office included major milestones like steering Finland through the pandemic and pushing the nation into NATO after Russia barreled into Ukraine. Those are serious accomplishments by any measure.
But in her memoir, Marin laments that none of this sticks in the public’s mind. She’s angry that the world remembers something else entirely.
She told the New York Times, “That night was, maybe, six hours of my life. I was a prime minister for four years.”
