The tragic assassination of conservative leader Charlie Kirk has set off a political firestorm—one that now pits former President Barack Obama against the Trump administration.
Speaking Tuesday at the Jefferson Educational Society’s 17th annual global summit in Erie, Pennsylvania, Obama condemned the killing while pointing a finger at what he claimed was a climate of “division” fueled by the current White House.
“Regardless of where you are on the political spectrum, what happened to Charlie Kirk was horrific and a tragedy,” Obama told the crowd, one week after Kirk was gunned down while speaking at Utah Valley University.
Obama admitted he didn’t personally know Kirk but acknowledged the conservative activist’s national influence.
