Red State Governor Just CHANGED The Game On Maps

Missouri is the latest Republican-led state to step up its redistricting fight. Governor Mike Kehoe, a Republican, has officially called lawmakers back to Jefferson City for a special session to redraw the state’s congressional map. The decision signals the GOP’s determination to secure its majority in the U.S. House ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.

On Friday, Kehoe announced that the General Assembly would return this Wednesday to take up the issue. Currently, Republicans hold six of the state’s eight House seats, but party leaders see an opportunity to increase that advantage by restructuring district lines.

For years, analysts have speculated that Democrats’ hold on Missouri’s 5th Congressional District—based in Kansas City and represented by Rep. Emanuel Cleaver (D-MS)—could be in jeopardy. A new map could drastically reshape that seat, leaving Democrats with even less power in the state.
