A Wisconsin judge thought she could outsmart federal immigration agents inside her very own courtroom. What happened next has turned into a taxpayer-funded nightmare and exposed just how broken the system really is.
Judge Hannah Dugan hasn’t been working since late April, but her bank account sure hasn’t noticed. She continues to rake in $6,712 every two weeks – the equivalent of a $174,512 annual salary – despite being suspended from the bench. That means Wisconsin taxpayers have already handed her nearly $50,000 for doing absolutely nothing while she fights federal charges.
If that sounds outrageous, that’s because it is. Suspension used to mean loss of work and pay. Now it looks more like a paid vacation.
The Wisconsin Supreme Court benched Dugan after she was caught aiding Eduardo Flores-Ruiz – a previously deported illegal immigrant – in sneaking out of her courtroom while ICE agents were waiting in the hallway to arrest him.
