In a post on X, the former president tried to spin the GOP’s efforts as a threat to democracy, writing:
“We can’t lose focus on what matters – right now,” he declared. “Republicans in Texas are trying to gerrymander district lines to unfairly win five seats in next year’s midterm elections.”
“This is a power grab that undermines our democracy.”
The backlash was immediate and brutal.
X users wasted no time shredding Obama for the hypocrisy. Many pointed out that Illinois, his home state, is infamous for hyper-aggressive gerrymandering — carving up districts so creatively that even liberal watchdogs have raised eyebrows. Yet Obama never uttered a word of criticism when Democrats rewrote maps in Chicago to ensure permanent control.
One user fired back, “Says the guy from the gerrymandering capital of America.”
Others took it a step further, calling out Obama for his silence during Democrat-led redistricting in New York, California, and Maryland. Apparently, gerrymandering only matters when Republicans do it.
And then came the personal jabs.
Critics mocked Obama for lecturing on democracy while his own legacy is tangled up in the Russia collusion scandal. The same administration that spied on journalists and weaponized intelligence agencies is now pretending to be the guardian of free elections? Voters weren’t buying it.
Some users even made reference to the growing rumors surrounding Obama’s private life. “Shouldn’t you be more focused on your own house than Texas?” one commenter asked bluntly.
But the bigger takeaway here is this: Democrats are panicking.
Why else would they flee the state rather than face a vote? Why else would Obama, of all people, suddenly chime in on a state-level issue? The left knows they’re losing ground in key battlegrounds, and Texas — a state they’ve desperately tried to turn blue — is slipping further away.
This isn’t about maps. It’s about power.
Republicans, emboldened by Trump’s leadership, are fighting fire with fire. While Democrats have manipulated district lines for decades, the GOP is finally pushing back. And it’s driving the left mad.
As 2026 approaches, don’t expect the theatrics to stop. Democrats will keep fleeing. Obama will keep tweeting. But voters are watching — and they’re tired of the hypocrisy.
