Trump, known for his direct and often controversial statements, did not hold back in encouraging Zelensky to accept the meeting. In a Truth Social post, he wrote, “President Putin of Russia doesn’t want to have a Cease Fire Agreement with Ukraine, but rather wants to meet on Thursday, in Turkey, to negotiate a possible end to the BLOODBATH. Ukraine should agree to this, IMMEDIATELY. At least they will be able to determine whether or not a deal is possible, and if it is not, European leaders, and the U.S., will know where everything stands, and can proceed accordingly!”

Trump’s push for the meeting comes as Ukraine and Russia observe a temporary ceasefire in recognition of the anniversary of the end of World War II in Europe. However, with Putin offering few concessions and maintaining a hardline stance, the path to peace remains uncertain.
Trump also raised doubts about the potential success of the talks, adding, “I’m starting to doubt that Ukraine will make a deal with Putin, who’s too busy celebrating the Victory of World War ll, which could not have been won (not even close!) without the United States of America. HAVE THE MEETING, NOW!!!”
If the meeting proceeds, it will be the first face-to-face encounter between the two leaders since December 9, 2019, when they met in Paris during the Normandy Format summit. Since then, the relationship between Kyiv and Moscow has grown increasingly strained, with each side accusing the other of intransigence.
With global leaders watching closely, the upcoming talks could prove to be a pivotal moment in the conflict, testing both Putin’s willingness to negotiate and Zelensky’s resolve to push for a meaningful peace.
