77% of Young Men Can’t Serve

The Trump administration is turning its attention to a growing health concern among American men, with the Pentagon introducing new guidelines to identify testosterone deficiency among male service members. The initiative comes as officials warn that declining physical fitness, rising rates of chronic illness and other health problems are making it increasingly difficult to find Americans who meet the military’s demanding enlistment standards.

At the center of the effort is a concern that extends beyond individual health. Senior health officials argue that the physical condition of the nation’s younger population has direct implications for America’s ability to maintain a strong and combat-ready military.

Adm. Brian Christine, a senior Department of Health and Human Services official who helped develop the initiative, says testosterone deficiency deserves greater attention as the government confronts broader problems affecting military recruitment and operational preparedness.
