A heated immigration debate is once again exposing a fundamental disagreement over what it means to become part of the United States.
Margarita Cielo Balbuena, a longtime New Jersey resident, recently appeared at a Democratic event connected to the controversy surrounding Delaney Hall and made an appeal for a pathway to citizenship for longtime immigrants.
According to the remarks attributed to Balbuena, she said in Spanish: “We need a path to citizenship for those of us that have been present at least 7 years in this country.”
