A quiet Saturday at Menlo Park Mall in Edison, New Jersey turned into an all-out riot when more than 300 teenagers swarmed the property, resulting in a massive disturbance that ended with multiple arrests and an injured police officer.
Edison Mayor Sam Joshi confirmed the mayhem in an Instagram post, stating that “over 300 youth” had gathered at the mall before “a brawl ensued.” He clarified that the initial four individuals arrested were not local residents. Authorities have since upped that number to seven.
“No weapons were involved, thankfully, and law enforcement from surrounding towns stepped in quickly to assist,” Joshi added, painting a picture of a town caught off guard by an overwhelming wave of teen chaos.
Police say the violence was fueled by a viral TikTok post that urged teens to descend on the mall, triggering a flash-mob-style takeover. Edison Police Chief Tom Bryan explained that a single officer was on duty at the time when the situation exploded into violence.
