“So you have to understand, right? Republicans aren’t really interested in upholding the law, in following security protocols. What they’re interested in is playing a political game and now only wanting to investigate Biden.”
Even under Biden’s embarrassingly naive use of the term “literally,” the papers that are the focus of Trump’s current dispute with the National Archives and Records Administration (and an unprecedented FBI raid in August) were not “literally stolen.”
It is doubtful that Trump will be seen to have been “literally stolen” in this case, despite the fierce dissent. This case serves as evidence of how polarizing our justice system can be.
President Trump has the power to declassify any records he saw suitable while in office. He recently claimed to have used specific files to demonstrate his capacity to use this capability.
When pertinent records about him and his lack of power at the time were made public during his stint as vice president, Biden attracted attention.
Democrats are often depicted as champions of justice and fairness, but recent events have shown that to be oversimplified. The last five years have given Americans—even those paying close attention via networks like MSNBC—a chance to learn a more nuanced set of facts about the reality of our political system.
