A Job That Was Never What She Was Promised
McCarthy joined The View during its seventeenth season in 2013 alongside Whoopi Goldberg, Barbara Walters, and Shepherd. According to McCarthy, producers recruited her after focus groups complained the show had become overly hostile and politically toxic.
She was hired to soften the tone, inject humor, and cover entertainment topics. Reality television, pop culture, and lighthearted banter were supposed to be her lane.
