In a Sunday interview with Meet the Press, President-elect Donald Trump called for the prosecution of all members of the House January 6 Committee. Trump, who has consistently criticized the panel, stated that its actions defied congressional norms and legal fairness. During his conversation with host Kristen Welker, he also reaffirmed his commitment to granting pardons to January 6 protesters upon taking office.
“These people have been there. How long is it? Three or four years? You know, by the way, they’ve been in there for years, and they’re in a filthy, disgusting place that shouldn’t even be allowed to be open,” Trump said, vowing to act swiftly once inaugurated on January 20.

Since January 2021, the Department of Justice under President Joe Biden has faced criticism for its handling of January 6 cases. More than 1,400 individuals have been arrested, many of whom were charged with misdemeanor trespassing. Critics argue the DOJ has overlooked similar or worse offenses by left-wing activists, including Black Lives Matter protesters who attacked Secret Service agents near the White House and vandalized federal property, as well as pro-Palestinian demonstrators who disrupted Congress.
