Two grieving Minnesota families have stepped forward to reveal the identities of the young victims lost in Wednesday’s horrific mass shooting at a Catholic church in Minneapolis. The act, now being investigated as an anti-Catholic hate crime, has left an entire community shattered.
A Father’s Pain
At a press conference on Thursday, Jesse Merkel, the father of 8-year-old Fletcher Merkel, spoke through tears about the moment his son’s life was cut short inside Assumption Church, where Fletcher attended school.
“Yesterday, a coward decided to take our eight year old year old son, Fletcher, away from us,” Merkel said. “Because of their actions, we will never be allowed to hold him, talk to him, play with him, and watch him grow into the wonderful young man he was on the path to becoming.”
