A shocking act of courthouse violence erupted in North Carolina after a woman allegedly opened fire on two attorneys representing a local police department in a bitter legal dispute tied to her mother’s death.

Gwendolyn White, 57, arrested after shooting two attorneys outside Raleigh, NC, courthouse

Authorities say 57-year-old Gwendolyn White is now facing multiple attempted first-degree murder charges after prosecutors allege she ambushed two lawyers outside the old Wake County courthouse in Raleigh on Friday morning.

The terrifying shooting unfolded in broad daylight just moments after a courtroom hearing connected to a lawsuit involving body camera footage from the Rolesville Police Department. According to local reports, White was the plaintiff in the civil matter and had become increasingly agitated during the proceedings before the violence exploded outside.

Police say the targets were veteran attorneys Mary Harris and Jeffrey Whitley of the national law firm Fox Rothschild, which has represented the Town of Rolesville for years.

What began as a tense courtroom dispute quickly turned into chaos on the courthouse steps.

Raleigh Police Chief Rico Boyce described the horrifying sequence of events during a press briefing after the suspect was taken into custody.
