NFL Chooses Controversy Over Country

When the NFL announced that Puerto Rican rapper Bad Bunny would headline the upcoming Super Bowl halftime show, the backlash was immediate. The performer—known for cross-dressing, explicit lyrics, and anti-American remarks—has long been a lightning rod for criticism.

This is the same artist who once said he refused to tour in America because “f***ing ICE could be outside [my concert],” calling it a “concern” for his team. On Saturday Night Live, he mocked non-Spanish speakers, saying, “if you didn’t understand what I just said, you have four months to learn.”

Bad Bunny’s 2020 hit Yo Perreo Sola featured him in full drag, fake breasts and all—hardly what most Americans expect from a family-friendly halftime performance. Yet the NFL’s leadership thought this was “exactly what football fans want.”
