Despite the danger, authorities advised her to continue with her plans so as not to alert the stalker. But Frank Gifford wasn’t about to take any chances.
Donald Trump Steps In
Knowing Trump owned the Miss America pageant at the time, Frank Gifford reached out to him personally. Without hesitation, Trump assured him that he would handle everything.
“Frank, don’t you worry about it. I’ve got your girls,” Trump told him.
At the time, Gifford had just given birth to her daughter six weeks earlier. Instead of allowing her to travel by car, Trump sent a private helicopter to fly her and her infant to Atlantic City, telling her it was because she had a newborn and deserved safe, comfortable travel.
Upon landing, she was met with four security guards, one of whom stayed stationed outside her hotel room at Trump Plaza and Casino for the entire week.
The Stunning Truth Revealed
At first, Gifford didn’t think much of the additional security. She went about her duties as usual, unaware of just how serious the situation was. That is, until she walked into the hotel lobby and saw the front page of a newspaper.
“It says Daily News — Kathie Lee Gifford, death threat,” she said.
Everything clicked into place. She finally understood why she had been under such tight protection. Organizers of the pageant asked if she wanted to reconsider hosting, but she refused.
“I said, ‘Hell no,’” Gifford stated. “Nobody’s going to make me afraid.”
The next day, the FBI delivered the news she had been waiting for. While she was watching a movie, an agent approached her.
“In the middle of the movie, one of the FBI guys comes over and goes, ‘Mrs. Gifford, we got this son of a b****,’” she explained. “I said, ‘Thank you so much.’”

A Side of Trump the Media Won’t Show
Gifford credits Trump’s quick thinking and decisive action for protecting her and her daughter that week. Despite how he’s portrayed in the press, she knows a different man—the man who stepped up when her family was in danger.
“That’s my friend Donald,” Gifford said. “Saved my life. Saved my daughter’s life. And if I called him today, [he] would save it again.”
The media may never tell this story, but those who know Trump personally understand that his actions speak louder than their narrative.
