In a major shakeup of the federal bureaucracy, President Donald Trump is turning to one of his most trusted fiscal warriors to lead the charge at the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), replacing Elon Musk, whose controversial but effective tenure is drawing to a close.
Stepping into the role is none other than Russell Vought, the White House’s hard-nosed budget chief and longtime Trump ally. Vought, who previously served as Director of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), is expected to spearhead the president’s aggressive push to slash government spending and rein in federal overreach.
According to The Wall Street Journal, Vought will oversee key reforms that include clawing back billions from left-leaning federal programs, reclassifying thousands of federal employees, and enforcing the president’s sweeping regulatory rollback agenda.
Though Musk’s high-profile leadership of DOGE grabbed headlines, it was Vought quietly laying the groundwork for lasting change. He praised the department’s commitment to eliminating bureaucratic red tape, saying Trump’s administration remains focused on the goal of “eliminating ten regulations for every one imposed.”
