And contemplating a violent attack.” The article leans heavily on Crooks’ academic record and flowery writing — burying the real story under layers of irrelevant trivia.

Here’s what matters: Crooks placed an online order for more than two gallons of nitromethane, a high-powered fuel used in bomb-making. He used an encrypted email to contact a specialty fuel company — a serious move that speaks to premeditated violence, not a momentary lapse.
