Former US President Donald Trump has declared his intention to pay a visit to Javier Milei, the recently elected Argentine president who has earned the moniker “South America’s Trump.”
According to the Associated Press, Milei’s office announced on Thursday that he had discussed travel plans for the near future with President Trump. The two leaders may meet in Buenos Aires soon after the libertarian leader takes office on December 10th, even though the spokesperson did not specify the exact date of their meeting.

“The president-elect received a call last night from the former president of the United States, Donald Trump, who congratulated him and pointed out his triumph by a wide margin in last Sunday’s election had a great impact on a global scale,” a news release from Milei’s office said.
Journalist Luis Majul of Argentia initially broke the story on X, stating that the call was made possible by the son of former Brazilian president Jair Bolsanaro. That’s correct, Milei replied on social media.
The conversation between Milei and President Joe Biden took place just hours before. According to Biden’s office, the topic of conversation was “the strong relationship between the United States and Argentina on economic issues, on regional and multilateral cooperation, and on shared priorities, including advocating for the protection of human rights, addressing food insecurity, and investing in clean energy.”
President Trump congratulated his South American opponent Milei shortly after her victory and said he hoped the two could collaborate if he beats President Joe Biden in a video that he posted on Truth Social.
“The whole world was watching and I am very proud of you, that you will turn your country around and truly make Argentina great again. Congratulations,” said Trump.
In an interview with Tucker Carlson earlier this year, Milei—a self-described “anarcho-capitalist” who favors eliminating large portions of the federal bureaucracy in his country—spoke extensively about the harm he feels liberals have caused to his homeland.
“Argentina is a country that has embraced socialist ideas for the last 100 years”, according to Milei, has caused uncontrollably high inflation comparable to that of some of the most hopeless failed states in history. The elites who oppose him are unable to understand another, more liberated way of life because Argentinians, like frogs in a boiling pot of water, have become so accustomed to a stifling lack of freedom.

After a century of corruption and uncontrollably high inflation, Milei, a former rock musician and trained economist, said he thinks voters in Argentina are finally ready to reject socialism.
“Never embrace the ideals of socialism. Never allow yourselves to be seduced by the siren song of social justice,” he said.
“I’m convinced that what I’m doing is right,” added Milei. “Life without freedom is not worth living.”
As one of the few who truly understood that the fight is against socialism, that the battle is against the statists, he has urged President Trump to “continue with his fight against socialism.”
