The Supreme Court has delivered another setback to President Donald Trump in his long-running legal battle with writer E. Jean Carroll, refusing to reconsider its earlier decision not to hear his challenge to a $5 million civil verdict.
The justices rejected Trump’s request for a rehearing Monday in a brief order that offered no explanation and recorded no dissents. The ruling leaves the jury’s verdict intact and closes another avenue Trump had pursued in an effort to overturn the judgment.
The latest decision follows the Supreme Court’s June 29 rejection of Trump’s original petition for review. His attorneys subsequently asked the justices to take another look, arguing that another case involving Carroll could potentially affect the outcome of the $5 million dispute.
