A new round of diplomatic negotiations between the United States and Iran has concluded with what mediators are calling meaningful progress, opening the door to additional technical discussions scheduled to begin immediately in Switzerland.
Representatives involved in the talks announced Monday that both sides have agreed to follow a roadmap designed to reach a broader agreement within the next 60 days. The framework was revealed in a joint statement issued by mediators from Pakistan and Qatar, who played a central role in bringing the two sides together.
One of the major developments to emerge from the negotiations was the creation of a new “de-escalation working group” that will include Lebanon. The group is expected to focus on reducing tensions connected to the ongoing conflict involving Israel and Hezbollah.
