In a stunning legal twist, a federal appeals court has stepped in to reverse President Trump’s earlier decision to fire a Democrat commissioner at the Federal Trade Commission (FTC).
Back in March, President Trump moved swiftly to remove both Democrat commissioners from the agency.
“President Donald J. Trump is the head of the executive branch and is vested with all of the executive power in our government. I have no doubts about his constitutional authority to remove Commissioners, which is necessary to ensure democratic accountability for our government. The Federal Trade Commission will continue its tireless work to protect consumers, lower prices, and police anticompetitive behavior,” FTC Chairman Andrew Ferguson declared at the time.
He added, “I wish Commissioners Slaughter and Bedoya well, and I thank them for their service.”
The two commissioners didn’t take the firing quietly. Shortly afterward, they launched a lawsuit demanding to be reinstated.
