In a bold move following a shocking assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis announced on Tuesday that he will be taking charge of the investigation at the state level. The governor signed an executive order assigning the case to the Office of Statewide Prosecutor, under the supervision of Attorney General Ashley Moody.
During a press conference held in West Palm Beach, DeSantis expressed concern over the federal investigation into the attempt on Trump’s life, questioning whether it was appropriate for the same federal agencies prosecuting Trump to lead the investigation into the assassination attempt. “The suspect committed several state law violations across multiple judicial circuits, including Martin County as well as, perhaps, the judicial circuit represented by Broward County,” DeSantis said.

The assassination attempt took place at Trump’s golf club in Florida, where shots were fired near the course as Trump played. DeSantis stressed the urgency of the situation, citing the seriousness of the crime and the need for full transparency. “The state of Florida has jurisdiction over the most serious straightforward offense, which is attempted murder,” DeSantis explained. He made it clear that state agencies would be working swiftly to uncover the truth and hold the suspect accountable.
