Trump to Netanyahu: “You’d Be in Prison If Not for Me”

President Donald Trump has confirmed reports that a tense conversation recently took place between him and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu regarding Israel’s military operations in Lebanon, shedding new light on growing concerns about the expanding conflict in the Middle East.

During an interview with New York Post columnist Miranda Devine, Trump acknowledged that he had become increasingly frustrated with the continued fighting between Israel and Hezbollah forces operating in Lebanon. The president revealed that he directly pressed Netanyahu to find a way to reduce the violence before the situation spiraled further out of control.

“I was a little bit perturbed at his constantly fighting with Lebanon. At some point I said ‘Bibi, we gotta stop this. We gotta stop it.’”

Trump’s comments offered a rare glimpse into private discussions between two leaders who have long maintained a close political relationship. While the former president has consistently been one of Israel’s strongest allies, his remarks suggest that even he has concerns about the potential consequences of a prolonged military confrontation on Israel’s northern border.

The interview came shortly after an Axios report described a much more explosive exchange between the two leaders. According to that report, Trump reportedly delivered a blunt warning to Netanyahu as frustrations mounted over the conflict.
