The Georgia lawsuit brought by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis against former President Donald Trump appears to be going against her. Her attempt to charge Trump and his 18 co-defendants together was unsuccessful, which was a setback.

John Santucci, editorial producer at ABC News, was brought in to examine the effects of this choice. As the events took place, Santucci commented that the Fulton County District Attorney’s office was not having a good day. He remarked, “Fani Willis wasn’t there, but you’ve got to imagine, Diane, she’s throwing things against the wall based on this hearing.”
Santucci spoke more on the difficulties the prosecutors are now facing. “A great win for Donald Trump and others that did not want to be part of this speedy trial case. I can tell you sitting here with you, just texting with some of the attorneys involved in the other defendants: celebrating.”
“This is everything they wanted, was to take more time and slow this down.”

The decision to divide the cases and the subsequent adjournment of hearings may have a significant effect on how the case turns out in the end.
Judge Scott McAfee of Fulton County Superior Court has announced that President Trump’s case will not be heard in October as originally planned. This choice was made after Sidney Powell and Kenneth Chesebro successfully argued for the separation of their cases from those of their other co-defendants. On October 23, procedures will begin, and both people will still stand trial together.
The decision rejects DA Willis’ intention to trial all 19 co-defendants concurrently, dealing him a severe blow.
“The Fulton County Courthouse simply contains no courtroom adequately large enough to hold all 19 defendants, their multiple attorneys and support staff, the sheriff’s deputies, court personnel, and the State’s prosecutorial team,” McAfee wrote.
Court observers who saw last month that Judge McAfee had wryly acknowledged DA Willis’ capacity to manage her ambitious case were not surprised by his conclusion. “It just seems a bit unrealistic to think that we can handle all 19 in 40-something days,” he said.

Willis engages in conflict with a number of co-defendants, notably Mark Meadows, to stop their cases from being transferred to federal courts. Meadows’ original motion was refused by a judge, but he challenges the decision.
According to McAfee, if a defendant is successful in taking the case to federal court, it may utterly undermine DA Willis’ legal plan.
“Where does that leave us in the middle of a jury trial?” McAfee said. “Is double jeopardy attached? Have you now risked your entire prosecution because this case has now been removed to federal court? And we’ve sworn in a jury that has been presenting evidence against all these other co-defendants.”
Trump’s alleged role in interfering with Georgia’s 2020 election results is still a source of debate. While House Republicans and local officials in Georgia are now moving to investigate and even impeach District Attorney Willis, Trump continues to deny any wrongdoing.
