President Donald Trump is heading back to Texas this week for a two-day trip that will put two major priorities of his presidency on display: strengthening the Republican Party’s position ahead of the midterm elections and honoring Americans who helped make history in space.
Trump is scheduled to arrive in Houston on Thursday, August 27, where he is expected to headline a Republican National Committee fundraising event. The private gathering is part of a broader effort to build the GOP’s financial strength as Republicans prepare for what is expected to be a hard-fought battle for control of Congress in November.
The Houston fundraiser is also expected to benefit Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, the Republican Senate nominee in a closely watched race. Trump’s visit gives the party access to one of the country’s most powerful conservative donor networks at a critical point in the election cycle.
